Exempt Summary Park Administration is responsible for fiscal and personnel management, clerical support services, staff support to the Parks, Recreation, Community Services, Arts & Culture, grant administration, and applying for grant funding.
The Planning & Development of Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Is responsible for the existing facilities, the land for the development of parks and recreation facilities, and the preservation of open space.
Responsible for the development of the department's annual budget and expense management.
Developing a Community Engagement program for community outreach to engage the community to participate in the available activities.
Manage Facilities - generate and share permits, schedule programs, take in-house and online reservations, and schedule leagues and meetings.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible professional position that includes administrative and managerial work, planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Park and Recreation Department.
The Director of Parks and Recreation plans, promotes, organizes, and administers public recreation service for the tribal community, under policies established by the Cocopah Indian Tribe.
Supervises, selects, trains, directs, and evaluates department personnel, and monitors all activities and operations of the department; sets goals and objectives and establishes guidelines for performance; Supervises acquisition, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of recreation facilities; coordinates with Public Works Department and the Planning Department on routine maintenance and special repair projects; Evaluates effectiveness of recreation areas, facilities, and services; Studies local conditions and develops immediate and long-range plans to meet recreational needs of all tribal community age groups; Prepares budgets and directs expenditures of department funds and keeping of department records; Reports recommendations and direction to Tribal Administration; Advises Tribal Administration/Tribal Council on long-term strategic planning for all parks and park programs; Oversees marketing of park programs including the Parks & Recreation website, brochures, and social media; Develops and manages sponsorship program for department (Ex:
Turkey Trot, Social Club and special events, children's baseball, football or basketball leagues or after school programs including planning snack or meal menus and prepping snacks or meals); Complies with all Cocopah Indian Tribe Policies, Protocols, and Procedures; Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Successful practices and knowledge of principles, rules, and procedures of organized competitive sports, athletic and recreational programs, objectives of public recreation and athletic programs, principles of supervision, organization, administration, and operation of an facility.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, customers/residents, and the general public.
Ability to know how to provide a variety of revenue-based programs in the areas of general recreation programs, athletic leagues, special events and instructional classes.
Ability to follow and maintain a budget.
Ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participants and the tribal community; exercise independent judgement in the application of program and game rules and procedures; plan, promote, organize, and coordinate recreational programs and events; and be a team player in the organization.
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
Know their exact duties in case of fire or catastrophe.
Use safety equipment provided for personal use in performing daily work assignments Participate in special safety activities, as designated, such as Safety Committees, Job Safety Analysis, special training, etc.
Provide public protection from unsafe conditions and hazards resulting from work operations The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors and may have exposure to adverse weather conditions related to outdoor recreation events.
Willingness and availability to work an irregular schedule.
Qualifications Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred.
First Aid /CPR Certification is required Food Handler's Card is required.
Must have an Arizona Driver's license Must be COVID-19 vaccinated or must obtain by the end of the 120-day training period.
Must pass DPS/FBI fingerprint background investigation Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration or a related field, a combination of education and 5 years of work-related experience may be considered.
