Dropout Prevention Specialist Purpose:
Prevent students from dropping out of our Yuma Union High School District schools.
Requirement(s):
Valid AZ Teaching Certificate Goals:
1.
Reduce number of dropouts, especially status unknown W4's.
2.
Increase number of students who have a seamless and successful educational experience at our district high schools.
3.
Triage students who seek an alternative educational setting so that they seamlessly transfer to our alternative programs at our high schools, or to our alternative school, Vista, or to alternative charter high schools locally.
4.
Assist parents in supporting students to be successful in our high schools.
5.
Facilitate communication between departments on our campuses including administrators, counselors, teachers, attendance clerks, nurses and others to make sure our at risk students are prevented from dropping out and that their needs are tended to in an efficient and time sensitive manner.
6.
Facilitate communication between our campus staffs and other agencies such as Juvenile Probation, CPS, DES, etc.
7.
Advise campus administration on innovative program development through data and narrative about the students who are at risk of dropping out.
Performance
Responsibilities:
1.
Develop a structure of communication regarding students who begin to develop patterns of absences.
2.
Contact parents of students who are at risk, especially due to patterns of absence.
3.
Communicate with counselors and administrators regarding at-risk students in order to triage students to services and processes such as student study team.
4.
Meet with parents of target students to discuss solutions, plans and alternative programs when appropriate.
5.
Refer all minor children under age 16 with excessive absences to Juvenile Justice and do follow-ups with probation officers.
6.
Retrieve books from students who leave and fail to return school property.
7.
Communicate with teachers concerning status of missing students.
8.
Make recommendations for program development to meet the needs of targeted students.
9.
Other duties as assigned.

$41,000.
00 - $49,500.
