Full-time 1 day ago Full Job Description JOB Summary The Tribal Pesticide Officer is a grant-funded position under the direct supervision of the EPO Director, with work hours subject to reduce from full-time to part-time based on grant funding availability.
The Tribal Pesticide Officer will implement and supervise the Tribal Pesticide Regulatory Program, enforcing Tribal/ Federal pesticide codes for compliance on all Cocopah lands in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Monitors and investigates use/misuse of pesticides on Cocopah lands.
Develops training programs and issues licenses and permits pertaining to the Tribal Pesticide Control Ordinances.
Ensures that all Pesticide use on the Cocopah reservation complies with applicable Tribal Ordinances and Federal regulations.
Complies with requirements for personal protection and safety, including the proper use of issued personal and protective equipment.
Develops and maintains contacts with governmental agencies regarding quality assurance guidelines.
Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.
Provides outreach to the Cocopah community on pesticide safety.
Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be willing to work outside of routine working hours if needed.
Good time management skills.
Ability to prepare program budget.
Ability to maintain effective working relations with and among employees, tribal members and the public.
General knowledge of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act.
Ability to attend training locally and out of town.
Qualifications Must demonstrate knowledge of agricultural pesticide program, preferably with some hands on field and pest control application experience or a related field.
Must supply medical certification stating that he/she can safely use respirators at the request of the EPO Director.
Must possess a valid AZ Driver's license.
Bilingual a plus.
Must be COVID-19 vaccinated or must obtain prior to the completion of the first 120-day training period.
Education and/or Experience Associates degree in related field is preferred, completion of trade school, professional or technical certification, specialized training.
6-months specialized work experience, 3-years work experience in related field or 2-years supervisory work experience.
NATIVE AMERICAN AND CURRENT EMPLOYEE EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCE POLICIES ARE APPLICABLE TO ALL POSITIONS.
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND ON-GOING RANDOM DRUG/ALCOHOL TESTS.
